Poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)s (PLGA) is randomly polymerized from two monomers-lactic acid and glycolic acid. It is a degradable functional polymer organic compound with good biocompatibility, non-toxicity, good Capsule-forming and film-forming properties are widely used in pharmaceuticals, medical engineering materials and modern industrial fields. In addition, PLGA has also passed FDA certification and was officially included in the Pharmacopoeia as a pharmaceutical excipient.
Different ratios of lactic acid and glycolic acid can prepare different types of PLGA. The study found that the destruction of the ester bond by PLGA will lead to the degradation of PLGA, and the degree of degradation varies with the monomer ratio. The greater the ratio of glycolide, the easier it is to degrade. Interestingly, when the ratio of the two monomers was 50:50, the degradation rate was faster.
The degradation products of PLGA are lactic acid and glycolic acid, which are also by-products of human metabolic pathways, so it has no toxic side effects when applied in medicine and biological materials. Because PLGA has good biocompatibility and biodegradability and controllable degradation rate, it has a wide range of uses in the field of biomedical engineering. It has been made into artificial catheter, drug sustained release carrier, tissue engineering scaffold material, etc. In order to facilitate the follow-up study, we labeled PLGA with fluorophore.
